O-SET was created by two certified, New Jersey state teachers currently employed by the Garwood Public School system, to provide students the opportunity to participate in a fun, hands-on interactive learning experience over the summer based on the five disciplines of science, technology, engineering, art and math.
Denise Cafiero
Denise Cafiero is a certified math and science teacher. She is currently a fifth grade mathematics and science teacher at Lincoln School in Garwood, NJ. Denise will be finishing up her tenth year teaching in June 2018.
Denise graduated from The College of Saint Elizabeth with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. She then completed the New Pathways to Teaching in New Jersey, an alternate route teaching program, through Hudson County Community College. Denise taught for five years with the Bayonne Public School District where she was voted teacher of the year during the 2012-2013 school year. She received the honor of Educator of the Year with the Garwood Public School System during the 2017-2018 school year.
Denise traveled to Huntsville, Alabama in June 2017 to participate in the Honeywell Educators at Space Academy where she gained 45-hours of professional development in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
Susan Naples
Susan Naples is a certified special education and elementary education teacher at Lincoln School in Garwood, NJ. She is currently a Kindergarten through grade 6 language arts teacher. She has 31 years of teaching experience.
Susan graduated from Kean College with a Bachelors of Arts Teacher of the Handicapped. She was the 2017 Educator of the Year for the Garwood Public School System.
Susan has volunteered and taught in Africa. She is an outdoors woman and nature enthusiast. Susan tutors privately and has previously owned and operated a summer tutoring program.
